The mission of St. John's is Christian worship in the Anglican tradition.
We worship by:
Creating a spiritual home for all who seek God

ST. JOHN'S ALTAR GUILD
The Altar Guild of St. John's share a fellowship that satisfies the needs of both clergy and people in common prayer. They perform their duties with much pride and devotion. The satisfaction from being on the Guild is highly rewarding. The members are enriched by their relationships with others and with learning the meaning of the worship services, the church year and seasons. To join the Altar Guild please contact the church office at 860-523-5201.
"Gracious Lord, you have called us to work with the things of beauty which enhance our worship. Assist us by your Holy Spirit, that we shall always treasure this service, rejoicing in this calling and joyfully doing all those tasks which this vocation may include. This we ask in the holy Name of Jesus Christ, Our Savior. Amen " (Charles L. Wood, Altar Guild Prayers)
ACOLYTES
The Rev'd Anna S. Pearson
annapearson@sjparish.net
There is a large and dedicated group of acolytes, many of whom are seniors, and each one of them has a role in running the group. Instead of one "head acolyte," each senior is designated a "senior acolyte" and is assigned a specific job for the year (i.e. scheduling, etc.). This system is new for Saint John's, and it has been an interesting experiment. The leadership in years hence will depend on the number of seniors and their interest in leadership roles.
As always, the program year begins with sign up on Seek and Serve Sunday in September and a training for new acolytes on the following Saturday. New recruits are paired initially with veterans so that they can learn this important ministry through experience. A second refresher course is offered after the start of the New Year.
The acolytes continue to be a devoted and responsible group. They take their role in the worship services seriously, both at the church and at Hughes Home. They are an invaluable help to the clergy and the lay readers, and are appreciated for the way they execute their responsibility, and for their dedication.
LAY READERS
In aggregate St. Johns has twelve lay readers, conducting in excess of 58 services, mostly at Hughes Convalescent Home and at Saint John's, and assisting at more than 131 services, and conducting 30 church school services.
We welcome new additions to the ranks as well as "YAC," otherwise known as the teenagers, to participate in lay reading.
